During Eth0:2010 Summer there will be a public, complete retrogaming experience. While eth0 focusses its event around hacking and security, there is enough room for slacking. One such place is the Eth0:2010 retrogaming experience, where all consoles and games from our past are present, as well as some new ones. You know; the nes, megadrive, 2600, pong consoles and more.

Here you will find all pre-event details, so everyone can see what's going on and possibly contribute.

FIXT!

Tents during previous events
  • Tent, 5x5 meters

Ideas/Plans

These ideas and plans contain contributions made by others and ourselves. The text in brackets indicates the need for the idea and the percentage it has been arranged. Its a rough estimate, but it gives an indication. Please adjust status and needs according to your own liking. A low need doesn't mean we don't want it, just that there is less focus by the current team.

  • [high 10%] Donation mailing, we need more consoles
  • [high 30%] TV's: crt and possibly flatscreens
  • [high 00%] Beamer(s) (how many? see tent layout)
  • [high 00%] Interior (couches, lights, tables)
  • [medium 30%] 8 Bit Music - User:Will-Do ownes a lot
  • [medium 00%] Decor / props (need: medium, status: 0/100)
  • [medium 10%] Audio/Video output to network/other locations on terrain (radio shack) User:Zarya has a 4 channel video to network broadcaster.
  • [medium 25%] Location for the tent, possibly next to the cottages, otherwise somewhere where lots of people visit and in connection with the lounge?
  • [low 10%] Compo's (maybe the 3-in-one game cartridge from the wizzard, that would make it awesome)
  • [low 10%] Real life compo's, games of ping pong and real life snake
  • [low 00%] official approval by james rolfe? (need: low, status: 0/100)
  • [low 10%] Anaglyphic game trip, in collaboration with fransh, it's very awesome: playing mario 3 in anaglyphic mode

Tent layout

The tent we get is about 5*5 meters. These same tents have been used at HAR and Eth0 Summer 2008. There is certainly enough space for 4 couches, and even a fifth at the top. Maybe throw in some chairs.

decoration ideas:

A Mario-like tube as entrance with the sound played when someone enters. Cubes with questionMarks on them in the air. The Mastersword

8-bit music offcourse (I fight dragons?)

Console placement / wiring

What is Retro? In my honest opinion ps1 and everything before that is considered retro. (Syb) although not everything is as popular.

All these consoles need wires, and for exporting their video/image even more wires. Also they need tv's (on lackracks?) and extra tables to play with raised feet :P Do we need headphones extension cables/headphones to limit cross-noise? (probably not a problem)

Since we don't have much space, maybe we need to work in the vertical axis. A wall of tv's, of course it has its pro's and con's. like good for space, bad for people who want to sit in front of the tv.

We might need a large sofa possibly without armrests but just pillows, so it can fit more people.

another idea is using 2 oposite walls for placing tv's + consoles with a big row of sofas, chairs in the middle Back-to-Back gaming.

Donation Mailing

We need more consoles, as we only have about 15 (mostly private) boxes. Although we like lending consoles, there are bigger risks, and its also not possible to tinker with them. Therefore we've devised a donation mailing to ask unknown others to donate their old game systems to our initiative. This section also encompasses plans with a longer timespan; they might end up in a public stash and various hackerspaces.

Warning: this donation mailing will is written in Dutch/moonspeak.

Consoles

The tent will have plenty of room for consoles. A quick estimate says about 20, with some spares/optional in boxes. We try to lend consoles from our friends, our lend them from our own stash. There is also a public 'nobody-owns-this' stash of consoles, donated by rd and maybe others in the future.

Needed

These consoles / games are smash hits and should be present.

  • Super smash brothers for N64 + 4 controllers (Stitch has this already)
  • Super mario 3
  • List of top titles for older consoles, so we have good games
  • Dedicated pong consoles
  • add more here...

Stash

Consoles & games in the stash

  • Dreamcast (donated by rd)
  • Playstation 1 (donated by rd)
  • Playstation 1 (donated by rd)
  • Gamecube (no games?) (donated by rd) considered retro? its the ps2 xbox original generation..
  • NES 8bit (no games?)
  • various others and lots of games, has to be inventorized. Its not clear if all poweradapters, cables and etc are present or are in good condition.

Private

Consoles lended from others...

  • 2 NES 8 bit consoles with 22 games (including zelda & zelda II), only 1 set of cables. owner: jacko

Crew

  • How do we keep in touch?
