This page contains information about the Free Stuff Corner for Eth0:2026. The Free Stuff Corner is organized and administrated this year by Fristi.

Where and when?

The Free Stuff Corner will be set up somewhere in one of the two hackcenters. It will be available the whole weekend.

What can I do at the Free Stuff Corner?

The Free Stuff Corner is a place for people to give stuff and take stuff. If you have something useful that you no longer need, you can place it in the corner for someone else to take. If you have need for something and don't mind second-hand stuff, check out the corner and take what you need. The main purpose of the corner is to help combat e-waste, by giving used stuff a second home.

Keep in mind that everything at the corner is entirely free. No money involved at all. If someone talks about money or payment, remind them it's called the FREE stuff corner.

How to use the Free Stuff Corner

When you bring or take an item, please notify the attendant (usually Fristi). They will add and remove the items from the online manifest so we can keep track of what we have in stock. The attendant will also appraise items you bring over, to see if they follow our guidelines (see below). In case the attendant is absent, feel free to place or take any items you want, but please leave us a note or remind us at a later time, so we can still register the items.

To avoid confusion, the area to place and take items will be marked with ribbon or tape. Anything inside this area is up for grabs; anything outside of it is not.

Online Manifest

Everything we have will be listed in our online manifest, located here.

Guidelines

When bringing items:

  • Make sure the item is reasonably clean and tidy.
  • Make sure the item is in proper working condition.
  • Preferably bring smaller items rather than larger ones.
  • Please don't bring heaps and heaps of stuff at once.
  • We may refuse items that nobody has any interest in (especially if we already have too many of them).
  • No usb sticks. We're not testing for viruses or USB killers. Other storage media are fine.

When bringing LARGE items:

  • Before you bring it, consider if people can actually take it with them;
  • Otherwise, be prepared to take it back with you at the end of the event if nobody wants it.

When taking items:

  • Don't be greedy. Leave something for the rest of us!

What not to bring

First off: no USB sticks. It's a little too easy to use them to spread viruses or as a USB killer, and it will be difficult for us to check with 100% guarantee that the device is free of harmful software or hardware. As such, no USB sticks.

While it might be tempting to bring over every spare keyboard you have, note that not every item might be so interesting to others. Things that people will likely already have enough of at home may include:

  • Keyboards (especially cheap keyboards)
  • Mice (who doesn't have 50 mice at home)
  • Low resolution monitors (specific niche)
  • Regular A4 printers (who even uses these anymore)

That is not to say there will be absolutely no interest in it, but chances of anyone taking it will be very low. We'll take a low number of these items, but we request that you pick them back up at the end of the event if nobody took them.

Our advice is to consider how much use your item actually has. Stuff like wires, cables and electronics parts can be easily reused and repurposed for all sorts of things. A printer serves one purpose only and most won't need it. The more useful something is, the more interest there will be for it.

DISCLAIMERS

Everything on this page is subject to change. Please make sure to check this page right before or during the event to get the latest information.

The items offered will be checked to see if they are clean (within reason) and in working condition. However keep in mind that these will be second-hand items and that they will have some wear and tear to them. We do not provide any warranties or guarantees that any of the items will last for any given amount of time. We do not take back any items that break -after- you've taken them.

Any items you take are for you to use at your own risk. While we do our best to check for potential unsafe or harmful items, it's simply not possible for us to detect every possible issue or defect.
